The middle game is the most difficult part of chess. In this part of the game, the forces have been developed and they are ready to battle it out. To make wise decisions, one has to take into consideration both the tactics and strategies. Summarize the analysis in a simple and comprehensive and follow this plan for the rest of the game. Plan is very important; in fact it is better to have a bad plan rather than not having a plan! Don't pay attention to strategic factors when a particular position becomes wild. Calculate the variations; this should be your first priority. Strategic factors will not be able to make up for the material lost. However evaluate a position on strategic factors if it's a quite one. Most of the positions have both strategic concerns and tactical possibilities.
There are many factors which influence one's valuation of the position: 1. Open files, diagonals, ranks. 2. Pieces that are well and badly placed. 3. Configuration of the pawn in the centre. 4. Superiority of the space. 5. Safety of the king. 6. Weak and strong squares. Open files, diagonals, ranks: you need to possess an open file, diagonal and rank. No enemy piece can step on them until and unless they are supported. An open file can become the most significant factor if the game is closed. Both players will try to get a hold of it and can also move the queen for it.
Pieces that are well and badly placed: a piece may be ideally placed. In such a case it will have control over important squares and it will also put pressure on your opponent. The one who owns it will try to use it for making threats. The opponent will of course want to exchange it or get rid of it. On the contrary, a piece which is badly placed will need to be relocated. This is usually not possible. Configuration of the pawn in the centre: the best plan is usually determined by the arrangement of the centre pawns. The play is shifted to the wings in case pawns are blocked. This is possible due to some strategic possibilities available in the centre. Thrusts are there in case pawns are not blocked. The player can try to get hold of the centre by using his pieces in case there are no pawns. In order to understand the central pawn, you must know about all the other pawns like blocked, free, hung pawns, backward, doubled and isolated. Superiority of the space: you can make e moves more freely if you have superiority of space. One who has this can attack initially and let the opponent defend himself. However to get a big edge, you need to have much more than space superiority. Safety of the king: this is important so that you can execute your plan well. You need to execute your plan or else it will be suspended as soon as your opponent threatens the King. A King who is exposed or semi-exposed can face difficulties when attacked. To make the King safe, one needs to have pawns and other pieces around him. Castling makes him safer! Weak and strong squares: a square is strong if you can use it to get entry into your opponent's territory. A weak square is one which can not be controlled by a player. To place the piece, choose a strong square. The squares which are taken by pawns are not strong enough! There a number of pawns and you need to understand them in order to make your game perfect: A free pawn can occupy the promotion square easily. It can knock down all its enemies and can prove to a big advantage for you. An isolated pawn is one which has no back support. It helps in increasing other piece's mobility and also provides some space. However it can be targeted easily since it has no support. So it can act as both as an advantage as well as a disadvantage. An example of such a pawn is a d pawn without c or e pawn of the same color. Double pawns are similar in color. They are also on the same file. It can provide some space though it's rare. You need to defend this as this is a weakness. A backward pawn is always targeted by the opponent. It does not advance much unlike the other pawns. Put more pressure on your opponent by exploiting his weakness like you must always threaten a weaker pawn. Attack when you are better. Create some problems for your opponent if he has no particular weakness like you can do pawn change in order to create a weak pawn for your opponent.
